The Blacksmith's Arms has been in Elm, in one iteration or another, since 1845, moving to its current location in 1881. It was renovated last year, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is the location of an annual Beer Festival, and regular party nights (see our Events page to find out more).
The picturesque village of Elm iscentral situated near to the cities of Peterborough, Cambridge and Ely, with the Norfolk coast only 45 minutes away. Other local landmarks include Peckover House, Octavia Museum, Elgoods Brewery and Gardens. The Reverend of the village in the 1940s and 1950s was Rev. Wilbert Awdry, creator of Thomas the Tank. The characters where conceived in bedtime stories for his son, who was ill at the time with measles. The tramway the ran through the village up until the late 60s was a key source of inspiration.
Despite its modernisation and attractive interior design, The Blacksmith's retains an authentic country pub feel with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The design of the pub has made the most of the great space available with a cosy, relaxed bar area as well as two dining areas, a beer garden and ability to hold functions.
The kitchen provides a seasonal menu of excellent British pub favourites, steaks, and more, all made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Dishes range from light bites to family Sunday roasts. Behind the bar the pumps are flowing with traditional local ales, whilst we also offer a varied wine list. Afternoon tea will also be available soon.
Landlady Tina Crawford has 20 years of experience in the industry. "I already have several weddings and functions booked for the summer, and this side of the business is continuing to grow," she says. "This is the perfect place for those looking for a top quality place to eat and stay, whether you are a business looking to accommodate visiting clients, or holiday makers. We offer extremely competitive rates for short and long terms stays." (Find out more about staying at The Blacksmith's on our Accommodation page.)
